Going out with a dog in Hamburg: frequently asked questions

How many dog friendly places are listed in Hamburg?

65 places in Hamburg are reported as dog friendly, including 21 shops, 17 parks and green spaces and 11 hotels and campsites. 33 places are, on the contrary, reported as closed to dogs. These figures move with every new review a dog owner leaves.

In Hamburg, are dogs allowed inside or only on the terrace?

Both happen. Among the listed places, 62 welcome dogs with no particular condition, 2 ask that they stay on a leash, and 1 take them on the terrace only. No general rule settles it for you: each venue decides, which is exactly why a review from an owner who has been there beats a guess.

Where can you go out with a dog in Hamburg?

The best documented category in Hamburg is shops, with 21 addresses. For instance Daily Dogs, Doggy Styling Salon and DogingStation Hundesalon. The full list, by category, is further up this page.

What about a place in Hamburg that is not on this list?

This page only shows places that are already documented, and they will always be a minority: the "dogs allowed" answer exists nowhere in complete form. That is precisely the gap the Woofpass extension fills — it shows the answer on any Google Maps listing, and when nobody has answered yet, you can do it in one click for the owners who come after you.

Where does this information come from?

Three sources, and they are kept apart. Reviews from owners who went there. OpenStreetMap open data, under the ODbL licence. And the place type when the answer is obvious — a dog park, a vet or a pet shop welcomes dogs: that is shown as inferred from the place type, never as a review.
