Going out with a dog in London: frequently asked questions

How many dog friendly places are listed in London?

500 places in London are reported as dog friendly, including 206 shops, 158 cafés and bars and 66 parks and green spaces. 167 places are, on the contrary, reported as closed to dogs. These figures move with every new review a dog owner leaves.

In London, are dogs allowed inside or only on the terrace?

Both happen. Among the listed places, 441 welcome dogs with no particular condition, 55 ask that they stay on a leash, and 4 take them on the terrace only. No general rule settles it for you: each venue decides, which is exactly why a review from an owner who has been there beats a guess.

Where can you go out with a dog in London?

The best documented category in London is shops, with 206 addresses. For instance 69b Pet Boutique, A.G. Price and Absolutely Animals Groomers. The full list, by category, is further up this page.

What about a place in London that is not on this list?

This page only shows places that are already documented, and they will always be a minority: the "dogs allowed" answer exists nowhere in complete form. That is precisely the gap the Woofpass extension fills — it shows the answer on any Google Maps listing, and when nobody has answered yet, you can do it in one click for the owners who come after you.

Where does this information come from?

Three sources, and they are kept apart. Reviews from owners who went there. OpenStreetMap open data, under the ODbL licence. And the place type when the answer is obvious — a dog park, a vet or a pet shop welcomes dogs: that is shown as inferred from the place type, never as a review.
